On the job

Conduct pre-trip inspections of locomotives, cars, and equipment, including brakes, fuel, and safety devices.
Operate controls such as throttle, air brakes, and other systems to move trains according to schedules and signalling instructions.
Monitor track conditions, signals, and railway crossings, responding to potential hazards or emergencies.
Communicate regularly with dispatchers, yardmasters, and other crew members via radio to coordinate movements and report on progress.
Perform minor adjustments or troubleshooting on locomotives as needed, and complete detailed logs and reports.
