Overview

A Fitter-Welder combines precision fitting with expert welding skills to construct and assemble a variety of metal structures, pipework, and mechanical components. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, precisely cutting and shaping metal materials, meticulously fitting components to ensure correct alignment and dimensions, and then welding them together using various techniques. They are responsible for the structural integrity and quality of the fabricated pieces.

Ensures the structural integrity and precise assembly of critical infrastructure, machinery, and equipment, contributing to safety, efficiency, and the successful completion of construction and manufacturing projects.

On the job

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to understand project requirements.
  • Measure, cut, grind, and shape metal components using hand and power tools, and cutting equipment.
  • Position, align, and fit metal parts together using clamps, jigs, and fixtures before welding.
  • Perform various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) to join metal components according to specifications.
  • Inspect welds for quality, integrity, and adherence to codes, making adjustments or repairs as needed.
