Interprets lung function tests, advanced imaging (CT, MRI), and manages patients requiring ventilatory support in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures like bronchoscopy.
Significantly improves the quality of life and longevity for patients suffering from acute and chronic respiratory conditions, from managing chronic diseases to providing life-saving care in critical situations.
On the job
- Conduct patient consultations, physical examinations, and review medical histories to diagnose respiratory conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function tests, chest X-rays, CT scans, and blood gas analyses.
- Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans, prescribing medications, oxygen therapy, and recommending lifestyle changes.
- Perform procedures such as bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, and intubation.
- Manage critically ill patients in intensive care units, overseeing mechanical ventilation and life support.
